Red Flags in Children's Behavior

National Alliance on Mental Illness advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community of hope for all of those in need.

FORT WORTH, Texas - April 8, 2013 - PRLog -- The Red Flags in Children’s Behavior Program will allow us to focus our effort specifically where it is needed the most—our children.  One in four children are diagnosed with a mental illness each year.  We will be able to effectively provide comprehensive educational material regarding signs and symptoms of depression to children.

The Red Flags program was created as a school-based depression awareness and intervention program by Mental Health America of Summit County.

Red Flags helps youth, parents and educators recognize and respond to signs of depression and related mental health issues.  The three-component program includes materials for educators, a 1-5 day curriculum for the students, and resources for parents and the community.

The curriculum for the students is based on a short film entitled Thick 'n Thin: Understanding Teen Depression. The story focuses on the relationship between best friends as one of them struggles with depression. Upon completion of the curriculum, students should be able to identify the signs and symptoms of depression, and know how to seek help for a friend.
