The 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid Makes Its Debut at the New York Auto Show

Recently, at the New York Auto Show, the automaker unveiled the 2014 QX60 Hybrid — in keeping with Infiniti’s new naming convention, it’s the same model as what was called the JX35, but it now has a more efficient powertrain.

The idea is this: the 2014 Infiniti QX60 is intended to offer a three-row crossover with a hybrid powertrain that doesn’t sacrifice utility or drivability. Under the hood, it’s got a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that works in concert with a 15-kW electric motor that draws its power from a lithium-ion battery. Total output amounts to 250 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain will come paired with a continuously variable transmission and the buyer’s choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

The QX60 Hybrid offers power that is very close to the 265 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque offered by the non-hybrid model. Of course, the hybrid model is exceptional in the area of fuel economy: it’s expected to receive an EPA estimate of 26 mpg combined city and highway, a 24% increase over the conventional model.

Infiniti is making the claim that the 2014 QX60 Hybrid will have the best fuel economy of any seven-passenger luxury crossover, and that it will have a highway range that exceeds 500 miles. It will also include a Drive Mode Selector switch, allowing drivers greater control over their on-road experience; the available modes are Standard, Sport, Eco, and Snow.
