Philadelphia choreographers Megan Mizanty and Rori Smith present their culminating master’s thesis, After Bodies, an evening-length performance featuring two dynamic new works.  Both works engage bodies in a technology spiral, bodies being absorbed through the screens of increasingly present digital devices.  Both choreographers investigate how the body’s sensuous experience is impacted: how we see, hear and speak about ourselves amidst the swell of mediating technologies.

After Bodies will be presented on April 12, 7:30pm and April 13, 2:30pm and 7:30pm at Conwell Dance Theater, 5th Floor Conwell Hall, Temple University, N Broad St & E Montgomery Ave, Phila., PA. Tickets are $20 General Admission, $15 Student/Senior, $10 Temple Employee/Dance Professionals w/I.D., and $5 Temple Students (with Owlcard). Tickets are available Mon-Sat 10-5 from the Liacouras Center Box Office, 1776 N Broad St, Phila., PA, online at www.liacourascenter.com, or by phone 1-800-298-4200.

Mizanty’s An Attachment features professional singers and dancers from Philadelphia, as well as Temple graduate and undergraduate dancers.  This rich interdisciplinary venture bridges the body and the voice in Temple University’s Conwell Dance Theater.  The work explores dynamics of texting, Facebook and cellphone use, and how it is affecting the human body and verbal/body language. The space will be transformed into an unexpected territory, where lines will be blurred between performer and audience, singer and dancer, and body and machine. Featuring the performances of: Kate Abernethy, Crystal Albrecht, Hilary Bucell, Joanna Martin, Megan Mizanty, Michael Nguyen, Minh Nguyen and Melissa Rodis.

In Smith’s Skin your ghost and wear it dancers Shailer Kern-Carruth, Megan Quinn and Ariel Zablocki experience the uncanny.  Faced with towering video projections of themselves, they attempt to make contact, to turn pixels into cells and merge with their digital skin.  Skin your ghost explores the digital body as a powerful doppelgänger and constructor of self-image and the anxiety induced by an imagined perfection that seems always out of grasp, fixed in the corner of your eye.
