April Showers Students and Families with Sweet Dreamzzz

Sweet Dreamzzz will be hosting many sleep programs throughout the month of April, serving over 500 children and 200 parents.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - April 3, 2013 - PRLog -- The month of April will be a busy one for local non-profit Sweet Dreamzzz ™ as they will serve over 500 children and 200 parents with their sleep education programs.     Sweet Dreamzzz educates children on the importance of sleep and gives them bedtime essentials so they can feel rested and ready to learn.  Their parents are also educated on the sleep needs of children and themselves and how to make a healthy bedtime environment in the home.  Sweet Dreamzzz will be able to bring their sleep programs to the schools through the support of Bright House Networks, The Young Woman’s Home Association, Hitachi and Our Lady of Sorrows Student Council.

The R.E.M.(Rest. Educate. Motivate.) Sleep Program will be delivered to A. L. Holmes Elementary School, Detroit and the Mercy Education Project, Detroit during the week of April 15th.  The program is twofold, bringing both warmth and comfort to the children as well as vital information they need to ensure a good nights rest.  The R.E.M. Sleep Program starts with a 30-minute presentation educating the children on the importance of sleep and good sleep hygiene habits.  After the presentation, each child receives a sleep kit consisting of a sleeping bag, nightshirt, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, stuffed animal, a R.E.M.™ activity book, crayons and more.  The City of Wayne Youth Services division will host Sweet Dreamzzz Enrichment R.E.M. Sleep Program on April 9th, when 150 children will learn all about how their bodies grow while they sleep and how important it is for them to get enough rest.

Sweet Dreamzzz also educates the parents through the Parent Sleep Education Workshop, where they learn about the importance of sleep, the required hours of sleep for their child as well as themselves, sleep strategies, and a bedtime routine to follow at home.  The parents receive a parent guide with recent sleep research articles, a magnet outlining bedtime routine steps, and a bedtime routine chart with stickers.  Sweet Dreamzzz believes that educating the children AND the parents will help everyone in the household understand healthy bedtime routines.  Sweet Dreamzzz will hold parent workshops at Edison Elementary School, Gompers Elementary School, Harms Elementary School, the city of Wayne Youth Services and the Mercy Education Project during the month of April.

Sweet Dreamzzz partners with companies to help deliver their programs to the schools, including TWO MEN and A TRUCK – Wixom, who donate their time and transportation, and Corrigan Moving Systems, who donate packaging materials.  Employees from partner companies frequently volunteer on program days to help distribute sleep kits to the children.  Sweet Dreamzzz has been able to serve over 38,000 children.  For information on how you can help by volunteering or organizing collections for Sweet Dreamzzz, or to find out about getting one of the sleep programs at your school, call the office at 248-478-3242 or visit www.SweetDreamzzz.org.
