Hyundai Set to Debut New Luxury Sports Coupe in Seoul

OAK LAWN, Ill. - April 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Hyundai offered a glimpse into the future at the Seoul Motor Show, with their concept HND-9 luxury sport coupe. Whether or not this vehicle will make its way to a local Chicago area Hyundai dealer (http://www.myhappyhyundai.com/used-car-dealer-chicago), like Happy Hyundai, remains to be seen. Chances are good that at least some design elements of the provocative coupe concept will make their way down into the next generation of the Hyundai Genesis coupe. However, no announcements have been made about whether or not some version of the HND-9 vehicle will make production.

Hyundai designed the HND-9 with an eye toward classic luxury coupes. It has a long front end and engine compartment with the sleek swept back Gran Turisimo style fastback roofline. For this concept, Hyundai went all out with 22 inch wheels, carbon fiber components, and butterfly doors. Under the hood of the striking coupe concept was a 365 hp turbocharged direct injection V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power back to the rear wheels in a classic sport coupe configuration.

If this HND-9 Concept (which indicates that it is the ninth concept car that the Hyundai design studio has created) makes it into production as a new vehicle or as the next generation of the Genesis, this powertrain could very well be realistic. Hyundai would probably also offer a turbocharged four cylinder for great efficiency, and just maybe the 5.0L V8 currently available on the Genesis sedan and the flagship Hyundai Equus sedan (http://www.myhappyhyundai.com/models/hyundai-equus).

Even the inside of the HND-9 was striking, with a bold and fluid design to match the exterior. Futuristic mesh upholstery is used to cover the seats that change color depending on viewing angle. Hyundai saved any interior technological surprises for another day, instead focusing on design.
