Being a mother and raising great kids can be a challenge for any woman. When the diagnosis of breast cancer is added, this task can become overwhelmingly impossible. Far too often, women feel the burden of guilt for being too tired or ill to handle their usual household responsibilities. They think they must choose between rest and healing, or taking care of their families. “I just can't say it enough how thankful I am for this program” explained one client. “I wish I had known about it the first time I had had cancer. Having the food, and especially the housecleaning has been such a blessing...I know my family is being taken care of, and that gives me peace of mind. Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors!” Mommy Has Breast Cancer was officially born in April of 2011, when a group of young survivors and their supporters came together after personally experiencing the difficulties of raising children while fighting breast cancer. The program launched as an independent nonprofit organization with the release of its website on January 1, 2012. It is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501C3 charitable non-profit organization as of the date of incorporation. Mommy Has Breast Cancer’s mission is to serve women and families affected by breast cancer. They provide educational materials and prepared meal services in all 50 states, based on the resources available in a geographical area. On May 11, 2013, Mommy Has Breast Cancer will sponsor its an annual 5K “I Love Mom” Walk to raise awareness and funds to support women and their families. This event is held in Cincinnati, Ohio. To assist with the 2013 event, volunteers and sponsors are needed. To register or volunteer, visit the website at www.mommyhasbreastcancer.org. Mommy Has Breast Cancer relies on donations and volunteers within the community. Partnerships with the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio, the American Cancer Society, Kroger, and other corporations have assisted the program in providing critical assistance to women and families battling breast cancer. Volunteers are welcomed on a national level, as the organization continues to support a growing number of women and families.
