Follow on Google News | Are you Looking Forward to Spring? Are you looking Forward to Spring- or do Allergies Make you Wish it Was Winter Again? Read ahead for a few tips to help you keep allergic reactions to a minimum.
Ah, spring-what a wonderful time of the year-unless you have allergies. Pollen, pet dander, and dust can ruin your outdoor enjoyment of the spring. About one quarter of Canadians are affected and that number grows each year made worse by a longer season due to global warming and pollution. Hay fever usually begins in the spring, grass and trees in the summer, and ragweed in the fall. Here are a few tips to help you keep those reactions to a minimum. • Watch for pollen reports on your local weather station. It will help prepare you for allergens outside • Close your windows while sleeping. Use air conditioning if you have it • Purchase a HEPA filter. There are many great air purifiers available now. Run the air filter in your bedroom and keep pets out of the bedroom. You need time to recharge overnight without allergy flare ups. A HEPA vacuum also may help. • Dry clothes indoors, and if you have a pollen allergy, use a drier. • Manage stress. Extra stress can throw off your immune system. Exercise and massage can help keep stress manageable. If your allergies get the better of you see your doctor for a nasal steroid which blocks the inflammation caused by allergies, or a natural way to sooth nasal passages is with a mild saline solution. A Neti Pot using saline solution removes the allergens. Breathe easy this spring and enjoy the outdoors! End
