Moovweb Kicks Off Monthlong Web Developer Challenge at HTML5 Developer Conference

By: Moovweb

SAN FRANCISCO - April 2, 2013 - PRLog -- San Francisco –  Moovweb (http://www.moovweb.com/) is challenging web developers and designers to show off how they would redesign aspects of the GitHub.com website for mobile devices. The company is hosting a virtual hackathon that will ask entrants to create a mobile web version of GitHub.com using the Moovweb SDK (https://console.moovweb.com/users/sign_up) – which is free to developers and encourages experimentation on new channels.

“I'm really excited to see the creativity people will unleash during this contest,” said Hampton Catlin, co-inventor of popular developer tools Sass and HAML and VP of Technology at Moovweb. “For the first time in the history of the Web, we have a tool that allows us to realize the dream of CSS ZenGarden but on live, actual sites.”

How it Works

The Moovweb Mobile Remix Hackathon sponsored by Moovweb challenges developers to create a mobile web version of the GitHub.com user profile page and project repository page using the Moovweb experience platform. All entries must use the Moovweb platform to mobilize the site and will be evaluated on the following criteria:

·         Visual Design: A rating of how visually appealing the entry’s design is.

·         User Experience: A rating of how usable the entry is. For example, are    buttons and fonts appropriately sized for mobile and is the information layout natural and easy to navigate.

·         Functionality: A rating of how well the entry works as intended and if it is  bug free.

·         Completeness: A rating of how well the entry could constitute a complete and shippable product. For example, does the entry mobilize additional pages on GitHub.com than required or support the additional functionality on GitHub.com than the minimum requirements.

·         Amazement: A rating of how well the entry engages and delights the user.

Since the Moovweb platform is all about experiences, the first prize winner will receive an all-expense paid three-day trip for two to San Francisco (or cash value equivalent of $3,000.00). The first place winner will also receive a GoPro® Camera to document your San Francisco experience. Four runners up will receive a $500 cash prize.

A panel of judges with diverse backgrounds and expertise will review submissions after the close of the challenge period. The judges include: Jina Bolton (http://html5devconf.com/aboutus.html), Product Designer, Do.com; Hampton Catlin (http://html5devconf.com/aboutus.html), VP of Technology, Moovweb; Shay Howe (http://html5devconf.com/aboutus.html), Lead Designer & Instructor, The Starter League; and Dave Nugent (http://html5devconf.com/aboutus.html), HTML5 Developers Conference Organizer.

To Be Considered

All Web developers and designers that are U.S. residents and 18 years or older are welcome to participate, and full eligibility requirements can be found online (http://www.moovweb.com/html5devconf). To be considered, contestants will need to complete a registration form online (http://remix.moovweb.com/) and create an account for the Moovweb Developer Console (https://console.moovweb.com/users/sign_up). They will then be able to create and submit their projects via the contest entry form. A contestant may submit more than one entry, either as an individual or part of a team; however, each entry should have its own project on the Moovweb Console. The contest will begin on April 2, 2013 at 9 a.m. (PT) and will close May 1, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. (PT).

Use of the Moovweb Experience Platform

Moovweb is the world’s first experience platform, empowering developers with a whole new approach to front-end Web development, making it faster and easier than ever to deliver amazing post-PC era sites and hybrid apps. The company's platform lets developers and designers transform and redesign any desktop website for mobile, tablet, or any touch point without the need for APIs or backend integration. Developers use a Web console to configure and monitor projects, collaborate with each other, learn about the platform and get support. The free Developer Edition includes access to the SDK and management console – everything developers need to design and build compelling post-PC era sites and apps.

Moovweb uses a technique called site virtualization that enables a mobile site or app to instantly inherit 100 percent of the content, features and business logic of a desktop site. Moovweb’s SDK empowers a frontend developer or designer to focus solely on building incredible mobile experiences without worrying about backend code.

Moovweb is a Diamond sponsor of the HTML5 Developer Conference taking place April 1-3, 2013 at the Palace Hotel (http://html5devconf.com/venue.html) in San Francisco.
