ASHBURN, Va. - April 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Ashburn, Va., April 2, 2013. The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, delivered the $6,000 proceeds of the 3rd Annual Badge & Tech Benefit to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Foundation to help the family of a police officer impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

The Badge & Tech Benefit Gala was held on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.

On October 29, the widest hurricane on record savaged New Jersey and New York, leaving some 150 people dead, thousands homeless, and millions without power. While police officers were saving people in New York and New Jersey, their own homes were being ravaged by the storm. By the time the storm passed, some 1,000 homes belonging to officers and their families were either severely damaged or destroyed.

IJIS Institute Executive Director Steve Ambrosini said, “It’s my hope that the funds we were able to raise at the Badge & Tech Benefit will help, in even a modest way, the family of a law enforcement officer whose home was hit hard by the storm.” IACP President Chief Craig Steckler echoed that sentiment adding, “It is an honor to have our IACP Foundation play a role in rebuilding the lives of even a few of our law enforcement family. We will work closely with our colleagues in New York and New Jersey to ensure this generous gift goes where it is needed most.”
