DALLAS - April 4, 2013 - PRLog -- MESA, an international landscape architecture, planning, and urban design firm based in Dallas, Texas has received 4 awards from the Texas Chapter American Society of Landscape Architects. The awards will be presented at the Texas ASLA conference in Austin, Texas on May 2, 2013.

MESA received the 2013 Honor Award in Residential Design for the Wildwood Residence in Dallas, Texas. The landscape design for this suburban property integrates modern architecture into its surroundings by juxtaposing a natural environment and a more formal, minimalist garden aesthetic. The main attraction is the long, rectangular reflection pool that anchors the courtyard with a beautiful abstract quality and was artfully designed to be level with the surrounding terraces. Landscape designs were completed by Mary Ellen Cowan, ASLA in conjunction with Bodron + Fruit Architects.

Stonebridge Ranch, a residential community in McKinney, Texas received the 2013 Honor Award in Communications. MESA worked with the Stonebridge Ranch Community Association to create an approach to identify and address the short and long term initiatives for the approximate 500 acres of open space within and around Stonebridge Ranch. The chief planning objective is the transition to a more sustainable maintenance and irrigation program by reducing maintenance and mowing, updating the irrigation system by utilizing “smart” controllers, and using less water consumptive plants where possible. Clearly identified goals and objectives responding to conditions found on site guided the long term plan and informed a variety of suggested “pilot” projects to foster community interest and support. Landscape designs were completed by Fred Walters, ASLA and the communication design was completed by Sandra Barker and Hank Moyers.

Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center in Cedar Hill, Texas will receive the 2013 Merit Award in Constructed Design. This project is a 270-acre pristine ecosystem located in a side canyon in the Mountain Creek watershed along the edge of the escarpment. This is the only spot in America where you can see flowering dogwood groves (an eastern tree) and black-chinned hummingbirds (from West Texas) together. This LEED Gold center features a restored native blackland prairie habitat, interpretive trails, a visitor center, outdoor classrooms including an existing cauldron to act as a detention basin during rain events, a children’s garden and a memorial garden. Architecture by Cunningham Architects.

Glukhovo is an urban development in Moscow, Russia that received the 2013 Merit Award in Unrealized Design. The vision for the Glukhovo project harmoniously integrates the performance needs of the development with the surrounding landscape to convey a sense of a modern “green” community which is differentiated from others in the regional market by preserving the existing topography and natural features as site organizers. The heart of the project is the Urban Resort Core, comprised of high density development with residential, community retail, health and wellness amenities, and ground level public plaza spaces. Landscape designs were completed by Fred Walters, ASLA and Aaron Duncan, ASLA in conjunction with Leo A. Daly Architects.
