ST. FRANCIS, S.D. - April 2, 2013 - PRLog -- St. Francis Mission is proud to announce that it will again be holding its popular Body, Mind & Soul camp this summer.  The camp is a week-long program designed to provide religious education and recreation to children held in multiple communities across the reservation, including Rosebud, St. Francis and Spring Creek.

“Many of the children who participate would otherwise never have any contact with the Church or the Mission,” says Father John Hatcher, President of St. Francis Mission. “The Body, Mind & Soul camp lets us to provide a fun, recreational environment in which to introduce children to Christ.”  During the 2012 Body, Mind & Soul camps, more than 150 children attended to learn about Angels.  They were led by St. Francis Mission religious education teachers, young Jesuits in formation, Jesuit Volunteers and students from Jesuit high schools from around the United States.

St. Francis Mission anticipates more than 200 children will attend the Body, Mind & Soul camps in 2013, which will focus on the Our Father Prayer. To help offset the costs of the program in 2013, St. Francis Mission is running a fundraiser online throughout April.

About the St. Francis Mission

St. Francis Mission is a ministry of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) among the 20,000 Lakota (Sioux) people on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in south-central South Dakota. It is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1886.  The purpose of the Mission is to re-evangelize Catholic Lakota people and bring the Gospel of Jesus the Christ to those who have not heard it. We respect the traditions of the Lakota people as we collaborate with them to meet the spiritual, educational, social, and physical needs of the community.

St. Francis Mission is the largest not-for-profit organization on the Rosebud Reservation that is not a governmental controlled or funded program.  Currently it supports work in six parishes, Icimani Ya Waste Recovery Center, the White River Recovery Center, religious education, the Buechel Memorial Lakota Museum, the St. Francis Mission Dental Clinic and KINI Radio 96.1 FM.  All work is done in cooperation with the Diocese of Rapid City.
