PRLog - April 2, 2013 - NEW YORK -- Kayla has been performing oldies music since the age of 9. Now at 15, making the transformation of Kayla Starr, the Oldies singer, to Kayla Stockert, Singer & Songwriter.
In the summer of 2012, collaborated with The Como Brothers Band to write and record the three original songs that make up their debut EP "Castles In The Sand".
Some recent highlights for 2013 so far have been; performing at the Highline Ballroom in NYC opening for Frankie Zulferino In 2012, spending time as a contestant on Fox TV's X factor and being a Finalist on MSG Varsity Talent Show. Kayla also won a listening session at Sony Records in NYC in affiliation with Sound & Image Showcase and was named "Global Emerging Artist". In 2011, Kayla was 1 of the handful picked out of 40,000 kids to audition for a show called Majors & Minors, although she didn't make the final cut the experience was invaluable.
A seasoned pro at such a young age, Kayla has already performed at places like the Dunkin Donuts Center in Rhode Island, Highline Ballroom, Apollo Theater in NYC, The Friars Club, Nikon Jones Beach Theater Side Stage, and at many other large venues. During this time she has had the privilege of not only meeting, but performing along side many of her musical inspirations. She has been fortunate enough to sing for Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and L.A Reid. Spent time with Connie Francis, and has shared the stage with Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, Gloria Gaynor, Donny Most from Happy Days, Lovin Spoonful, and many other "oldies" legends.
While not performing, she is a normal teenage girl who enjoys the guitar, piano, song writing, texting, shopping, cooking, makeup, XBOX, musical theater and Geocaching. Kayla is constantly involved in childhood cancer organizations & events, volunteering wherever they need her. She lends her voice to Songs of Love, an organization that creates personalized CD'S for children facing tough medical conditions. She is also a huge advocate for any animal organization!
Most recently has partnered up with Reverbnation & #MusicForGood giving 50% of her Reverbnation Song Sales to Love Hope Strength, which builds awareness of cancer needs and supports cancer centers globally. In April of 2013, Kayla will be holding a "Get On The List" event through the efforts of Love Hope Strength in hopes of finding possible matches for bone marrow!
She is already fast at work on several follow up tunes set to be done with Dan Welsch and Robert VOID Caprio at Suffolk Recording Studio this Spring, including a song given to her by legendary Long Island Guitarist Phil Antonocci before he passed; a phenomenal rock/country/
Currently, Kayla is touring acoustically with her Brother Matt on bass and his friend Nick on Lead guitar.
