Why not to Leave Project Plans on the Shelf

LA HABRA, Calif. - April 1, 2013 - PRLog -- La Habra, CA, March 2013 /ProjectManager/ -- One of the hardest things that a project manager has to face is procrastination; he starts a project, gets it approved, kicked off, done  a few steps, keeps in mind that this has been a big phase, hard enough and considers a well-deserved break, so he does. These genres of projects often get hanging and shelved for archiving instead of being pushed forward.

Jennifer Whitt – Bridges, Project Manager Ltd’s web content Director shares her own visions and tricks on taking care of shelved projects and keep it from failing. Whitt – Bridges had yearws of experience with different PM companies and already knows the backdoors and flip-overs of project management.

Whitt – Bridges’ said that no one really references shelved projects this is why these projects most likely get left behind and forgotten. “So what PMI includes in a project plan are these components. The project plan outlines the processes or how a project manager and how a project is going to handle different aspects of the projects. Specifically, things like change management, how are we going to manage the changes that occur on the project? Communications, how are we going to handle communications? Who needs to know what, when, and where, and how? Configuration management, if anything changes in the configuration or design of the product to be delivered, how is that going to be managed? The cost management, cost performance, human resources, process improvement, specifically if we had the project management processes for this project outlined, then what is the process that we go through in order to modify our process to make it better, more efficient? Also the procurement management, quality requirements, risk schedule, baselines, schedule management, scope, the baseline which includes the WBS, the work break down structure or the statement of work, and the scope management.” She added, as to ensure that Shelved projects get taken care of.

A lot of people often ask what needs to be updated regularly, rather daily, weekly or monthly. Regardless of the length of the period, these reports should be well written and managed, especially things like monitors, deliverables, tracks and different documents.

And as what Bridges always say, Communication within the PM team is really vital. Everybody should know what’s the status of the project, the risks, tasks, needs etc. No matter how good a Project Manager is or how quickly he responds to changes, if this aspect is not taken care of, he still is mired down the way.
