The Black Women’s Expo to Host Town Hall Meeting on Violence

Community leaders, elected officials, activist and faith community to come together to tackle Chicago’s most persistent challenge

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - March 28, 2013 - PRLog -- (CHICAGO) The Black Women’s Expo (http://www.theblackwomensexpo.com) (TBWE), presented by State Farm (http://www.statefarm.com), the number one national destination event for African American women in the Midwest will tackle one of the most serious and persistent issues facing Chicago today during the event at McCormick Place on Saturday, April 6. Merry Mitchell, columnist for the Chicago Sun Times, will moderate a panel entitled “Violence in Chicago, the Diagnosis and Prognosis”.  Mitchell will lead her panel through a no-holds barred discussion of the issues facing the city that have led to Chicago being a focus of national attention as it relates to violence and gun control.  

The Town Hall Meeting will be held from 1:00pm - 3:30pm on Saturday and features the Honorable Dorothy Brown, Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court; Brother Enoch “N.O.C.”, Director and Co-Creator of Hip-Hop DetoxX; Tio Hardiman, Director of Cease Fire Illinois and Creator of the Violence Interrupter Initiative; Kareem Pender, Senior Director of Human Capital and Education Programs; Rev. Dr. Michael Louis Pfleger, Senior Pastor, The Faith Community of St. Sabina; Juliana Stratton, JD, Executive Director of the Cook County Judicial Advisory Council; Alphonza Wysinger, 1st DeputySuperintendent, Chicago Police Department.  The panelists will touch on why Chicago is losing its children to violence at an alarming rate and some strategies for change.  Expo attendees are invited to take part in this critical discussion of the possible causes and most importantly, the solutions to saving our children, families and communities. The session is free to all Expo attendees.
