SWANSEA, Wales - March 28, 2013 - PRLog -- A famous writer who’s visited war-ravaged Iraq is soon performing at Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Centre.

Robert Minhinnick, a poet and novelist who co-founded Friends of the Earth (Cymru), will perform ‘An Opera in Baghdad’ from his New Selected Poems on Thursday April 11 with actress Tracy Evans.

The work, inspired by a 1997 visit, addresses the political and environmental destruction wrought by ongoing conflict in Iraq.

Swansea Council has arranged the appearance.

Robert will be joined on the politically-charged evening by Merthyr Tydfil writer Mike Jenkins. In his latest collection, called ‘Barkin!’, Jenkins captures both the craziness and tragedy of his hometown. Using local lingo, he writes about people who try to defy the town’s reputation as one of the poorest places in the UK.

Tickets are £5, £3.50 for concessions or £1.60 under Swansea Council’s Passport to Leisure scheme. Tickets are available by visiting http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/dylanthomas or by calling the box office on 01792 463980.

2014 will mark the centenary of the birth of Dylan Thomas in Swansea and a series of events are being planned to commemorate one of the world’s greatest poets
