LOS ANGELES - March 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Aquila Polonica Publishing announced today that Audible, Inc., the leading provider of premium digital spoken audio information and entertainment on the Internet, will release three of Aquila Polonica’s award-winning World War II titles in audio book form.

“I’m thrilled that our books will join the more than 100,000 titles Audible brings to readers,” said Terry Tegnazian, president and co-founder of Los Angeles-based Aquila Polonica Publishing. The company specializes in telling the little-known story of Poland’s heroism in WWII. “Listening to the words of these eyewitness accounts—written by authors who were ‘on the ground’ during the war—will really add another dimension of drama and intensity to the harrowing yet inspiring situations our books depict.”

The Aquila Polonica books Audible will produce in digital format tell the story of Poland in WWII from three different perspectives.

·         The Auschwitz Volunteer: Beyond Bravery by Captain Witold Pilecki is the first-person report by the only man known to have volunteered to get himself arrested and sent to Auschwitz as a prisoner. Pilecki’s eyewitness account “deserves to be read alongside the accounts of Primo Levi and Elie Wiesel,” wrote Pulitzer Prize-winner Anne Applebaum in The New Republic.

·         The Ice Road: An Epic Journey from the Stalinist Labor Camps to Freedom by Stefan Waydenfeld chronicles a Polish family’s deportation to the frigid wasteland of Siberia through the eyes of a 15-year-old boy. Renowned historian and author Norman Davies called the book “a thrilling adventure, all the more remarkable for being true.”

·         The Mermaid and the Messerschmitt: War Through a Woman’s Eyes, 1939-1940 by Rulka Langer is the gripping account of the opening months of WWII as experienced by a Vassar-educated career woman and young mother who risked her life and relied on her wits to keep her two small children and elderly mother from harm’s way. Bestselling author Alan Furst described the book as “absolutely one of the best eyewitness accounts of WWII Poland.”
