March 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Just when you thought it was safe to step into video marketing and YouTube; just when you thought you had it all figured out; YouTube rolls out an “improvement” to their site: YouTube One Channel.

If you’ve been on YouTube for a while and have gotten comfortable with the old layout, the new YouTube channel design may seem more like an unnecessary headache. After all, the old design looked perfectly fine so why mess with something that works?

The answer to that lies it what is happening right now and what will continue to happen with video and video marketing for small and large businesses everywhere.

And, what’s happening is that people are watching video…a lot.

YouTube Viewers: A Not-So-Small Country

YouTube just reached a milestone where they are getting 1 Billion (with a “B”) unique viewers (that’s unique people tuning into YouTube) every single month. And, they are watching those videos on all kinds of devices: Computers, notebooks, tablets, and smartphones.

With YouTube One Channel, the new design allows you to created branded headlines for your channel that will easily translate to all of these devices. As it is now, what someone can see in their desktop computer may be different than what they see on their smartphone. By fully leveraging the new YouTube channel design and layout you, the online business owner, have control over what your potential customers will see when they watch one of your YouTube videos.

Why is this important?

As reported by Cisco.com, it’s predicted that by the year 2016 about 86% of everything that is consumed world-wide on the internet will be video. This includes TV, video on demand (VoD), Internet and Peer sharing. That’s 1.2 million minutes of video crossing the network by the year 2016.

Plus, video is the #1 kind of “peer sharing” going on in social media sites like Facebook.

The technology companies that make that all possible must agree with those predictions. In another recent announcement,  a new coding standard was accepted which will result in videos being streamed using less broadband width.

In theory this will lower the costs to wifi and smartphone users whose plans are priced according to their bandwidth. However, it will also allow for more videos to travel across the wires.

They must know that a tsunami of video is on the not so distant horizon!
