GALVESTON, Texas - March 27, 2013 - PRLog -- The Galveston County Museum is requesting one-of-a-kind items related to the historic Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel, as well as items from Old Galveston Club to display in the hotel’s popular Hall of History. The hotel’s current bar was originally located in Old Galveston Club, formerly located at 2019 Market, which was touted as Galveston’s last speakeasy.

The County Museum collaborated with the Hotel Galvez & Spa to create the Hall of History in honor of hotel’s centennial in 2011. The exhibit was unveiled in January 2011 as part of the hotel’s centennial celebration and is now a permanent display located in the lower level of the hotel. Donated items will become part of the Museum’s permanent collection.

“We are looking for a variety of unique items, such as china or other collectibles, that are connected to the hotel and would enhance the exhibit,” says Helen Mooty, director of the Galveston County Museum. “We are excited to have museum volunteer Jim Saye, an accomplished writer, historian, and publisher of local history, working with us to update the display cases so we can show new items from our collection.

“We are also looking for drink menus, photos, postcards or any other collectables from Old Galveston Club,” adds Christine Hopkins, director of communications of the Hotel Galvez & Spa. “We’d love to have memorabilia to display in our Hall of History since it now is part of the hotel.”

Hotel Galvez and the Galveston County Historical Museum hope to continue adding displays throughout the hotel in the future.

Those interested in donating items should contact the museum by calling (409) 766-2340 or emailing Mooty at helen.mooty@co.galveston.tx.us. Donated items are tax deductible.
