By: Liqui-Site Designs, Inc. Founded in 1992, the Virginia Avenue Project is a free in and out -of-school program using the Arts in conjunction with long-term mentoring to help children, ages 6-18, think creatively, critically and confidently about their life goals and choices. Its curriculum includes classes and workshops, year-round academic tutoring and mentoring, and artistic productions. Project kids work in collaboration with adult mentors to develop life skills and give voice to their creativity. The Project presents four to five shows a year at professional theatres throughout Los Angeles - showcasing poetry, plays, photography and video created by Project kids and their adult artist/mentors - in addition to publishing an annual literary magazine. Over 100 committed volunteers work with the Project each year as mentors, tutors, teachers, designers, and committee members. Additionally, the organization has a long and special relationship with the Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL). Their collaboration gives children a safe haven for hundreds of young people and introduces the arts into the surrounding community. Through these partnerships and its Outreach Program, the organization has worked with public schools, Title One schools and schools for children who are learning disabled. Having celebrated our twentieth anniversary in 2012 and spending this year honoring our retiring founder, Leigh Curran, we have wanted to freshen our look and the functionality of our site. With our very limited resources, this was a wish we were unlikely to have fulfilled, until now. Thank you, Liqui-Site Designs,” said Kent Wallace-Meggs, Executive Director of the Virginia Avenue Project. End
