Miller Hendry Tops Scotland’s Will Aid Fundraising League

March 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Will Aid has announced today that Miller Hendry solicitors and estate agents have topped the fundraising league for Scotland, raising over £9,500 for their 2012 Winter fundraising campaign.

The Tayside firm raised the money for the Will Aid charities by writing around 125 Wills for local clients as part of November 2012’s Will Aid campaign, and has raised nearly £10,000 for the second year running making their total contribution to the charities coffers over £38,000 since they first started.

Solicitors at the firm offered Will Aid clients a basic Will and asked them to make a donation instead of paying the firm’s usual fees. The money raised is shared by ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, SCIAF, Sightsavers and Trocaire.

This amazing sum is already making a real and lasting difference to the lives of thousands of people in the UK and all over the world, helped by the Will Aid charities.

Catriona Yates, Legacies Officer at the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund SCIAF, which takes a share of the money raised by Will Aid spoke on behalf of all the Will Aid charities said:

By giving up their time every November for Will Aid, Miller Hendry has helped SCIAF to provide practical support such as tools, seeds and training to the many thousands of people we work with in countries like South Sudan, Ethiopia, Haiti and Colombia.  With this support, people are able to work their way out of poverty, towards a secure future for them and their families. Gifts in Wills have also helped to save many lives and brought real hope to people in desperate circumstances.  When people take the opportunity to leave a legacy in their Will, they’re helping us to build a better world.”

We found that many of our new clients had been considering making a Will for many years but simply hadn’t gotten around to it. Will Aid was the impetus they needed. A number of clients also wanted to use a legally qualified professional rather than taking the risk of using an unregulated will writer, but were under the impression that it could be very expensive. Will Aid’s suggested donation level gave them the peace of mind they needed to take the plunge. We were especially pleased to have attracted younger couples with children, who were keen to protect their children’s interests and appoint guardians.”
