FRISCO, Texas - March 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Local Vet Owners Share Their Passion for Education, Military Veterans, and Children

(Dallas) March 27, 2013 - LazyPaw Animal Hospital’s owners Dr. Brent Bilhartz and Dr. Julaine Hunter are all about making local pets’ lives better, but they’re also passionate about leaving their paw prints on the surrounding Frisco, TX community.

“We founded our animal practice to be a community friendly local business. We recently began an online pharmacy that makes filling prescriptions easier and more cost effective than the big box online stores, and we’re always looking for ways to keep costs low. This way of community thinking makes it easy and rewarding for us to support other local businesses,” says Hunter.

Hunter and her husband, Bilhartz, want to emphasize the “local” in their business, which is why they have made major efforts to support the Frisco community.

Hunter’s family has a proud United States military history in the Navy, Air Force, and Army, which is part of why she and Bilhartz love giving back to military support organizations. LazyPaw participated in and donated to the Frisco Sunrise Rotary Paddy Dash 5k and one mile races on March 9, a fun run that benefitted the North Texas Military Association (NTXMA). The NTXMA is a group of military veterans and their friends and family members dedicated to mentoring veterans, supporting veteran success in higher education, and donating funds to veterans in need. Hunter and the LazyPaw team also had the privilege of running and walking the race with the NTXMA members.

Bilhartz and Hunter are members of the Frisco Sunrise Rotary Club and also on NTXMA’s special events committee. LazyPaw Animal Hospital got the whole vet practice involved to find runners and walkers to participate in the charitable dash, and the hospital donated two gift prizes for the silent auction.

From April 5 to April 14, Hunter will trade her stethoscope for a hammer to join in Hope Park Build Week, a construction event that will build a park to accommodate children with special needs. Hunter believes all children deserve a chance to play in a safe, non-threatening atmosphere among their peers. LazyPaw’s sponsorship includes a commemorative brick and three fence pickets to honor great community members.

On Saturday, May 4, Hunter will support the Frisco Women's Tea League signature event, the Mother and Daughter Tea, which will benefit the Sci-Tech Discovery Center in Frisco. Hunter comes from a family of educators and believes in advancing education in the sciences for children. LazyPaw will donate two gift prizes for the silent auction.

LazyPaw is a top-level sponsor of Prosperity Place's Fun Run on Saturday, May 18. The run benefits Prosperity Place, a center for children with special needs that provides financial assistance for therapeutic services.

Hunter regularly hosts private, behind the scenes pet hospital tours for school groups, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Mommy and Me groups. She also does career day presentations at local schools to share her passion for science and veterinary medicine with students. Hunter annually attends numerous local middle school career day events in hopes of inspiring young people to seek training in the sciences.

“It’s important to us to make a positive impact on our community through our practice. Animals are amazing in part because they are full of genuine love that continually gives, and we want to be the same when it comes to supporting our community. We want our practice mission to reflect an attitude of service, giving, and community involvement so we can be the best veterinary hospital and local business possible,” said Hunter.
