Springer Selects Compuware APM to Optimize Online Library Applications

With Compuware dynaTrace, Springer will be able to engineer performance early in new services development and quickly pinpoint the source of performance bottlenecks in its highly advanced online library applications. Using Compuware dynaTrace, Springer expects to significantly improve the responsiveness of its subscription portal and optimise the experience for end-users.

Springer identified the need for a new generation APM solution when it began to migrate from its older third-party platform to a new system. The online portal, now built in-house, is designed to provide end-users with easier and faster access to publications. Focused on bringing new features and functionality to the market as quickly as possible while delivering the very best user experience, Springer chose to develop the new application in Scala. With this approach, application coding is up to three times shorter than traditional programming languages. After thoroughly researching the market, Springer concluded that only Compuware APM was able to support their IT and business objectives, delivering the required level of visibility into their systems.

The new system is also leveraging a big data application architecture relying on a NoSQL platform. While creating business advantage, both technology choices increased application complexity and obfuscated visibility into application performance. As a result, Springer needed a new approach to enable it to fine-tune its subscription portal during development and optimise its long-term performance.
