Small DNA Sequencing Players Hanging In There

NEW YORK - March 25, 2013 - PRLog -- No one has yet knocked Illumina off the hill in terms of the DNA Sequencing market, but the lower tier companies have been surviving. This according to Kalorama Information’s DNA Sequencing Market Research Bundle (http://www.kaloramainformation.com/DNA-Sequencing-Research-7404480/)  Roche's share is continuing to drop as the products continue to be eclipsed by the other companies' newer systems offering better price to performance ratio. However, the company is still working to bring new NGS products to the market. Pacific Biosciences's sales have been increasing, as the system's features have been improved.

BGI has been attempting to acquire Complete Genomics, another company that was close to the brink but which has seen renewed growth. Illumina has been taking measures to prevent the acquisition, due to the competitive implications. BGI would likely decrease its spending with Illumina if it obtained that technology in-house, and would become a stronger competitor in the services segment.

In late 2012, BGI also spun out two new subsidiaries, BGI Tech and BGI Health.
