Kia Announces that Kia Provo and Kia GT Might be on the Horizon

HIAWATHA, Iowa - March 22, 2013 - PRLog -- At the Geneva Auto Show Kia announced that dealers like McGrath Kia of Hiawatha, IA (http://www.mcgrathkia.com/section/secondary/about-us/) might be able to expect some new models in the near future. These cars, which will probably occupy halo positions in the Korean automaker’s stable, will sport impressive advanced technology under the hood, and won’t be shy on style either. The dramatic looking Provo would compete against other subcompact crossovers, but probably instead of a normal gas engine, the Provo would get a unique hybrid, all-wheel drive system. The GT would be a flagship rear-wheel drive luxury sport coupe, which would go head to head with the European mainstays of that segment.

The Provo concept, which debuted as a two-door coupe, would probably see production as a four-door model based on the Kia Rio (http://www.mcgrathkia.com/custom/2013-kia-rio/). The subcompact crossover concept sits on 19 inch wheels, and has a turbocharged, direct injected 1.6L four-cylinder under the hood that could make up to 205 hp. While the Provo uses a gas engine to run the front wheels, it also has what Kia called the Smart 4WD Hybrid system which uses an electric motor to drive the rear wheels with up to 45 hp. It can also run on all electric power at limited speeds. Finally, the Provo concept is equipped with a seven speed, dual clutch automatic.

The GT concept is a sleek, elegant, and athletic looking car. Underneath the sculpted hood is a turbocharged, direct injected 3.3L V6 which cranks out an impressive 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic. Other unique features include rear suicide doors, LED lights, and carbon fiber and alloy wheels.

The question is whether or not one, or both, of these vehicles will hit Kia showrooms in the United States. They could show up as early as the 2014 model year, but no official announcements about production plans have been made.
