FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 22, 2013 - NEW YORK -- On the occasion of the United Nations’ World Water Day FAWCO announces that it has raised nearly $165,000 for water sustainability. FAWCO's Target Water Project, which ended in February 2013, was a tremendous success with participation from 78% of member clubs from around the world who raised nearly $165,000.  Approximately $135,000 was donated to Tabitha Cambodia - Wells for Clean Water (http://www.tabitha-cambodia.org) while the remainder went to other water projects planned by local clubs. Thanks to the generosity of our clubs and members, FAWCO has changed the flow for 1,541 families in Cambodia by building 267 family wells and 370 field wells.

The Target Water Project is an intense effort on behalf of FAWCO clubs and individuals to educate, to raise awareness and to raise funds for improving access to safe drinking water. The FAWCO Target Project is an important part of FAWCO´s commitment as a recognized United Nations Non-governmental Organization (NGO) to support the UN Millennium Development Goals. In November of 2010, Tabitha Cambodia -Wells for Clean Water was selected by FAWCO clubs as the recipient organization of the Target Water Project’s fund raising efforts. World Water Day is held annually on March 22nd as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. In 2013, in reflection of the International Year of Water Cooperation, World Water Day is also dedicated to the theme of cooperation around water and is coordinated by UNESCO in collaboration with UNECE and UNDESA on behalf of UN-Water.
