Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic digestive disorders of the intestines. These illnesses are collectively known as inflammatory bowel diseases, or IBD, because many of their symptoms and complications are similar. It is estimated that some 1.4 million Americans suffer from IBD, with approximately 30,000 new cases diagnosed each year. CCFA hosts hundreds of support groups across the country, with six groups meeting in Kentucky. Groups are led by trained volunteers who are personally connected to IBD. CCFA support groups provide a safe, confidential forum for people to share skills for coping with and controlling Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
