Easing into the small community of Catamount can be difficult for a stranger, and this time, repercussions will be felt. Things heat up quickly when a Drifter wanders into town and ends up shooting several vicious dogs belonging to some local Aryan Nation thugs.
Unfortunately, the Drifter must now pay the penalty for his violation of the law, and his sentence of community service brings with it more than he ever expected.
Soon, the Drifter discovers that the residents of Catamount struggle with a unique and pervasive problem—rampaging and destructive herds of wild hogs.
Time after time, the citizens have pled for assistance from county, state, and federal wildlife agencies, but they have all been reluctant to send any aid. Now, as the people reach a point of desperation, it appears that the Drifter may be their last, best hope.
With the help of the local police chief and an old carpetbagger law still on the books, a deal is struck to allow the Drifter to hunt down and destroy the devastating herd of feral hogs and their leader—Negro Diablo.
What the Drifter eventually discovers, though, is that Negro Diablo is no ordinary hog; he is a thousand-pound, highly intelligent death machine that has even been filmed taking down cattle—and his herd of hundreds aren’t going down without a fight. Who will survive this riveting battle of wits and wills?
“Author Ned M. Huckins weaves a high-stakes game of survival of the fittest as man and beast are tested to the limits,” said Kathie McGuire, director of Brighton Publishing LLC. “Drifter’s Honor: The Catamount Conflict offers an absorbingly gritty tale filled with an impressive blending of cunning characters, tense scenes, and a dogged determination that redefines tenacity.”
With over thirty years of writing experience, Ned M. Huckins brings the same approach to his present novel as he does to life—balance. As a self-styled naturalist and veteran outdoorsman, Mr. Huckins not only understands normal wildlife cycles, but also the necessity of proper controls and management. He currently resides in the beautiful and lush woods of Washington State where he truly feels at home in his surroundings.
