STAMFORD, Conn. - March 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Stamford, CT – What’s it like to run a 14-year-old “start-up”? Find out when the Stamford Innovation Center hosts John Nardone, chairman and chief executive officer of [x+1] (http://www.xplusone.com), as part of its popular “Startup Success Series” on March 27.  Mr. Nardone will reveal how the ability to craft a vision, pivot the company when necessary and execute with continuous improvement has turned [x+1] into a leading provider of digital marketing and data management software.  He recently received the “Ad:tech Industry Achievement Award 2012” for his contributions to the digital marketing industry.

“I tell my team every day that if we want to succeed with an Internet-based business, we’d better be nimble,” said Mr. Nardone.  “In this highly connected and integrated ecosystem, innovations happen every day.  New software now comes to market very quickly because cloud computing enables companies to eliminate hardware investments and staff.  We’ve had to change the strategy of the company several times.  Knowing when and how to pivot is something we’ve done well, and I look forward to sharing our experiences with the entrepreneurs and more established companies that spend time at the Stamford Innovation Center.”

A classically trained brand marketer who spent seven years at P&G and Pepsi, Mr. Nardone turned his attention to online marketing in the mid-1990s when he joined Modem Media, the pioneering online marketing agency then based in Norwalk, CT.  He came to [x+1] in 2008 and after evaluating the capabilities and assets of the company against market opportunities decided to exit the online ad serving business and pivot the product offering set to capitalize on the coming revolution in digital marketing.  The company uses data and analytics to help marketers effectively bring together their paid and owned marketing channels to help them grow customer acquisitions and customer profitability.  The 100-person company is headquartered in Manhattan, and its 30-plus person engineering team is based in Norwalk, CT.

“John’s story with [x+1] is a great example of a visionary professional who is able to recognize unmet needs and then go deep to define an integrated solution that offers high value to an important market segment,” said Peter Propp, vice president of marketing for the Stamford Innovation Center.  “We’ve met several members of the [x+1] technology team, and it is clear that they are really excited about the technical challenges they have addressed as they’ve built a robust platform that, appropriately, treats online marketing like a mission critical task.  Anyone running a startup or even a more mature company will gain from hearing John’s firsthand telling of the [x+1] story.”

The event will be held at the Stamford Innovation Center (175 Atlantic Street) on March 27, starting at 6:30 pm.  A light dinner will be provided.  Following the presentation and demo, the Innovation Center will hold a round of “Startup Speed Helping.”  This crowd-pleaser consists of three-minute sessions where attendees sit with fellow entrepreneurs, investors, coders, sales and marketing leaders to see how they can help each other out with advice, connections or even a plan to work together formally.  To register, visit the Stamford Innovation Center Meetup page here (http://www.meetup.com/Stamford-Innovation-Center-Meetup/e...).

Previous participants in the “Startup Success Series” at the Stamford Innovation Center include Leonora Valvo, founder and chief executive officer of etouches, and Luke Scott, founder and vice president of marketing at deets (http://sharedeets.com).
