Invata Completes Latin American Distribution Center for Global Healthcare Products Leader

Panama City, Panama facility designed and outfitted to accommodate aggressive growth and evolving business model in Latin American market.

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - March 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Invata Intralogistics, Inc., an innovative authority in the design,  automation, implementation, and life cycle support of distribution and fulfillment center operations, today announced the completion of a multi-phase build out of a distribution center in Panama City, Panama.

The facility is designed to handle medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies for local distribution in Panama as well as distribution throughout the entire Latin America (LATAM) region.

The 82,000 sq. ft. Panama City facility was originally completed by Invata in 2010 and was initially designed to enable the healthcare products giant to bring what had been a 3PL regional LATAM distribution operation in-house and combine it with its local distribution operation. The initial design and equipment implementation included high-density storage for a wide product mix, a controlled area for nationalized product,  and a temperature-controlled area for the company's pharmaceutical product line.  Given the success of the initial build out, Invata was later called back in to reconfigure the space to accommodate a substantive change in the company's product mix.

The reconfiguration entailed converting floor level pallet lanes to high‐density elevated pallet storage with push back racking to accommodate lot picking along with an increase in the number of available picking locations from 14 to 30 to enable both lot and serial controlled picking. Additional racking was installed to increase the storage of both pallets and small lots in several other areas.

The product mix used in the reconfiguration included high-density storage, selective racking, dynamic storage, order selection equipment, order assembly equipment, a thermal curtain wall, roll-up doors, and fork truck safety barriers, all provided and installed by Invata Intralogistics.  To ensure warehouse security, Invata also provided control access barriers at the docks and in the temperature controlled area.

"We were looking for a partner who had previous experience working in Panama and would be able to implement this project quickly and efficiently," said the company's Distribution Manager. "We found that partner in Invata. The design of the expanded distribution center will meet our core objectives of expanded processing and storage capabilities as well as accommodating future growth."

According to Jay Moris, President of Invata Intralogistics, “Invata is very pleased to have completed this project on time and on budget.  Despite initial delays due to a dockworkers strike in Panama we were able to finish the work earlier than planned.  This has added another successful LATAM installation to our list of accomplishments, and is the beginning of a more rapid expansion of our international presence within a growing list of customers in North, Central, and South America.”
