As part of a management agreement with Spanish real estate development company, Cap Vermell Hotel Proyectos y Promociones SL, the 142-room luxury resort will be built to evoke a Mallorquin hilltop village whilst encompassing state of the art technologies and facilities. Guests can expect two restaurants, a lounge bar, poolside bar, separate beach club, Spa and fitness centre and generous space for meetings and events.

Canyamel is an interesting location for Park Hyatt as it is far from the traditional tourist honeypots of Palma and the southwest, with the International Airport an hour’s drive. However, Daniel Chavarria Waschke, Managing Director of Mallorca Sotheby’s International Realty, has been monitoring progress in the area.

I suspect one attraction for Canyamel was the international standard 18-hole golf course that will neighbour the Park Hyatt. The Park Hyatt will overlook the Canyamel valley with views of the sea and the ancient town of Arta and also be within walking distance of the golf course and the historic Cuevas de Arta. The hotel is at the centre of a 61-acre master development, owned and developed by Grupo Cap Vermell, which will include residential properties and a number of high-end luxury villas. Meanwhile Erwin Franz Muller and his team are planning an ambitious project to modernise and improve the golf facilities first constructed back in 1988. In doing so he hopes to win back golfers who may have defected to cheaper locations such as Egypt and Turkey, but without necessarily finding the same quality offered in Mallorca.
