Earth Day is a global holiday to celebrate the wonder of life on our plant. The name and concept of Earth Day was allegedly pioneered by John McConnell in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. Earth Day was first observed in San Francisco and other cities on March 21, 1970. This day was later sanctioned in a Proclamation signed by Secretary General U Thant at
the United Nations where it is observed each year.
There is an increasing need for education that raises awareness of the need for environmental stewardship. We believe in the power of the Arts to create images and etch melodies which deliver the green message in a practical and entertaining manner. As the Director of Green Earth Theater, my goal is to create theatrical productions that address the need for Eco-friendly performing art works. Green Earth Theater can be categorized by many names, ecological theater or Eco-theater, sustainable theater, environmental theater or even recycled theater.
Green Earth Theater produces plays that educate and promote ecology. Our focus is to build skills in sustainable and ecological practices that go into the making of a production. When I began this project, my hope was that the arts and the ecology would forge a partnership to educate and inspire personal responsibility to develop green consciousness.
The workshop will conclude Earth Day with a theatrical extravaganza featuring:

hand mirror. The 4 main characters sing, dance and emote their desire to be a useful part of society again through recycling.
Special equipment Needed

Set Design
Backdrop – Recreate a landfill, props; build a discarded wooden dump truck from recyclable materials. actor’s costumes. (Recyclable of course)
Imagine being tossed aside and considered useless. Imagine having so much more to give. Imagine your dreams of being "born again" become reality. This whimsical musical play addresses the realism of recycling thru the eyes of the "trash". They talk; they sing and dance the message of the need to recycle from an interpersonal and emotional perspective. The more our water systems can start becoming as pure as they look.
We also present workshops on composting, economic benefits to recycling, environmental education, neighborhood trash clean-up and a recyclable clothing fashion show. Information on our Earth Day Theater Project was in the Coastal Family Magazine http://www.coastalfamily.com/
