Filmmakers, musicians and fans from all over will gather at different theaters, galleries, pubs, and concert venues that make up CIMM in the Wicker Park and Logan Square neighborhoods. The films screened represent many different artist backgrounds and cultures and include fiction, documentaries, music documentaries, shorts and concert/music videos. The focus is on either cinema that is about music or films where music plays an integral role in a unique, new, or non-conventional way. Likewise, the live performances have some form of video accompaniment, utilize film, or are inspired by cinema.
The fest is also competitive, with a jury assigned to each category, compiled of notable and up-and-coming individuals in both the independent film and music industry.
CIMM Festival is the creation of BulletProof Film’s Ilko Davidov and Josh Chicoine of the Cloudbirds and The M’s, who both had a similar vision to create a festival that accentuated the relationships between film and music. Now in its fifth year, the event has gradually become its own institution within Chicago’s many film and music based festivals. Each year the fest draws more attendees and integrates more filmmakers, musicians, artists and other participants.
Aside from attending as a fan, there are volunteer opportunities for those interested in being a part of this year’s festival.
