GATESHEAD, U.K. - March 19, 2013 - PRLog -- ONE of North East England’s top Indian restaurants is celebrating after hosting two VIP nights in less than a week.

While some Asian eateries remain renowned for chintz and flock wallpaper, Raval Luxury Indian Restaurant, near the Hilton Hotel in Newcastle-Gateshead, is fast gaining a reputation as a modern, forward-thinking business serving Michelin-star quality food.

It is already a firm favourite with celebrities, having hosted the likes of Cliff Richard and England and Newcastle United football legend Alan Shearer.

And, earlier this month, it staged the post-awards party for the Royal Television Society for the sixth year in succession.

That event followed hot on the heels of Raval’s celebration to mark the 85th anniversary of the completion of the Tyne Bridge, attended by civic dignitaries, including Newcastle East MP and former Minister for the North, Nick Brown.

Restaurant owner Avi Malik said: “It was a very busy week for us. We felt we had to do something special to mark the Tyne Bridge anniversary.

“The restaurant is located on the south side of the bridge, so we almost feel part of it. One of the pleasures of dining here is the wonderful views of the bridge and across the Newcastle cityscape.

“We were honoured that Nick Brown and other civic dignitaries joined us for what was a very special evening, the highlight of which was our unique Newcastle Curry, made with Newcastle Brown Ale.”

Less than a week later, Raval was in demand again as TV talent from across the North East and Borders came together for a glittering awards ceremony at Newcastle-Gateshead’s Hilton Hotel.

Raval’s RTS after-show party has become something of a tradition.

Mr Malik said: “It’s great that we were chosen to host the party for the sixth consecutive year and proves we must be doing something right.

“Raval has always championed the creative industries. Indeed, the restaurant is currently displaying the work of several local artists.”

The RTS awards – the biggest event of its kind outside London – was hosted by television presenter Kirsten O’Brien, whose recent TV appearances include The One Show and Big Brother’s Bit on the Side.

Other guests included Sunderland-born actress Melanie Hill and Wallsend-born Charlie Hardwick, who plays Val Pollard in TV soap Emmerdale.

Meanwhile, 2009 X Factor winner Joe McElderry, of South Shields, presented one of the awards.

Among the big winners were documentary maker Chris Jackson, who won Presenter of the Year for his show Inside Out, ITV correspondent Kenny Toal, who won Journalist of the Year and the cast and crew of Hebburn, which won Best Drama Production.

Event co-ordinator Julie Judd said: “This was a huge occasion for those in the television industry from across the region. It rewards excellence and can make a significant difference to people’s careers.”

And Julie added: “Once the formalities are over with, everyone looks forward to the post-awards party.

“It did not get underway until about midnight and went on into the very early hours, but the level of hospitality at Raval was, as always, excellent.”
