Follow on Google News |  CEE and KBR Host Dinner Event to Strengthen Science TeachingThe mission of the Teacher Enrichment Program is to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The program focuses on best practices and resources, as well as exposure to the breadth and depth of scientific discovery often not available to rural and urban high school teachers and their students. The Bite of Science professional development session for teachers is estimated to impact at least 3,425 San Antonio, Texas students in 2013. The Teacher Enrichment Program provides content and information for teachers to engage students to pursue careers in science and technology. Bite of Science is one of six components offered by the Teacher Enrichment Program. The components of the Teacher Enrichment Program are as follows: Bite of Science This opportunity brings together 25 teachers with two leading scientists and/or engineers. Teachers have the opportunity to interact with researchers from industry, academia, and government. Lab Bench Interactive website for exclusive use by Bite of Science attendees. Includes Bite of Science presentation material and videos, additional STEM resources, targeted content from the Clearinghouse, laboratory activities, and resources for students. Clearinghouse The Clearinghouse is an online compendium of science resources within targeted states. Teachers can access more than 1,100 content rich STEM sites gathered for Life Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering classes at the secondary school level. The Clearinghouse is available cost free to any teacher and all content listed is free to access and use in the classroom. CEE Blog The CEE Blog serves to encourage discussion about education issues among STEM stakeholders in the global community. U.S. and international scientists contribute content and abstracts to the blog. Teacher Roundtables These events are hosted by CEE for science teachers to discuss critical science and laboratory education. These meetings serve to share ideas among teachers, including resources and classroom pedagogy. Public/Private Partnerships CEE works with companies to create and strengthen public / private partnerships to better serve urban and rural STEM teachers and their students. Among partners are KBR, Exxon Mobil, Capital One, Gen-Probe, Micron, and Microsoft to name a few. “In a period of fiscal difficulty for many school systems, events like the Bite of Science offer high-quality professional development to teachers, at no cost to the teachers or to the school system. Teachers are given the opportunity to interact with cutting-edge scientists and engineers, grow in their discipline, and network with their peers. This is an extremely cost-effective way to impact classroom learning and teaching methods.
