Girls Inc. of the Seacoast Area Hosts Third Annual Breaking the Glass Ceiling Awards Luncheon on Ma

Public Invited to Nominate One Extraordinary Woman and One Bold Girl
 
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - March 19, 2013 - PRLog -- NEWBURYPORT, Mass., March 19, 2013 –Girls Incorporated of the Seacoast Area, a Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center program, is hosting its third annual “Breaking the Glass Ceiling Awards Luncheon” and is soliciting nominations for one inspiring woman leader and one strong, smart and bold girl to be recognized publicly at the luncheon on May 1.  Anyone is invited to submit a nomination.

The nominees are required to live or work in the communities of Amesbury, Newburyport, Salisbury, West Newbury, Merrimac, Rowley, Ipswich, Newbury, Georgetown or Groveland. The adult award will be selected for recognition of an individual from the fields of education, community service or business who has demonstrated her leadership in creating opportunities or effecting change for women and girls.
The girl nominees must be between the ages of 6 and 18 and should have demonstrated leadership in her school or community. Nominations for both women and girl leader awards must be submitted by March 29th to the Selection Committee, 2 Harris Street, Newburyport, MA 01950 or may be emailed to kmajewski@jeannegeigercrisiscenter.org.

Nominations should include a letter of introduction explaining the association with the nominee, as well as his or her contact information and the nominee’s contact information. The nomination should explain how the nominee has demonstrated advocacy or commitment to improving the lives of women and/or girls, what impact the nominee’s leadership has had on other women and girls, how the nominee has promoted equity or change for girls and women and any other relevant information, such as strength of character, initiative, diligence, etc. For more information, call 978-465-0999 or visit our website www.jeannegeigercrisiscenter.org.

“We believe that Girls Inc. programming empowers girls and encourages them to embrace their value and potential, and equips them with the tools for leadership roles.  This award celebration highlights the girls and young women who have taken the next step towards those leadership roles. It is a great way to celebrate their hard work and to show others that they too can make a difference in their community and in the lives of others,” says Suzanne Dubus, CEO of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center.  

Award recipients will be notified by April 5 and the awards will be presented at the Breaking the Glass Ceiling Luncheon and Awards on Wednesday, May 1, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Blue Ocean Hall in Salisbury. There will be a Grab a Bag, Give to Girls silent auction which will feature a selection of premier handbags. Girls Incorporated is a national research, education, and direct advocacy organization that inspires girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Programs, based on research gathered at the Girls Inc. national resource center, encourage girls ages 6 to 18 to take risks and master physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges. For 30 years, the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center has been helping individuals and families at risk because of domestic violence.
