The Evolution of Law in Colorado
As a tribute to the rich and storied legal history of Colorado, Colorado Springs Style writer Liz Cobb provides readers with the early history of the El Paso County legal system and then fast forwards to the poignant changes that have made law in Colorado what it is today.
According to the publication, in the 1800s, there were just nine buildings serving as courthouses in El Paso County, CO. During prohibition, these courthouses held quite a few trials for “people making bathtub gin.” In just 30 years, there were about 2,700 attorneys in Colorado, all of whom were general practitioners.
In the early days, an attorney would start out doing it all and then decide what areas he was best at. Now, with 25,000 attorneys in the state, practicing law has changed dramatically;
An Honor Much Deserved
Timothy R. Bussey has been practicing law in Colorado for over 20 years. He is a prominent litigation attorney who handles DUI defense, criminal defense, and serious car accident cases. In addition, as a former Deputy District Attorney and active duty Air Force Judge Advocate, Mr. Bussey has litigated other cases throughout Colorado, including federal and courts-martial cases.
Mr. Bussey is always evolving his own strategy and practice and is the attorney other attorneys seek out to learn innovative trial techniques and tactics. One of his most prominent cases includes that against the Colorado Springs Metro Forensic Laboratory which was scrutinized for its blood alcohol testing practices. In fact, as highlighted in The Gazette, Timothy Bussey uncovered laboratory errors which potentially put innocent people behind bars.
In addition to his distinctive record of practice, Attorney Bussey has been selected as a Top 100 Trial Attorney by the National Trial Lawyers Association since 2007 and holds an AV rating under Martindale Hubbell’s Peer Review Rating process, the highest peer review rating. Furthermore, Mr. Bussey is often a requested speaker at state and local CLE (Continuing Legal Education) meetings and seminars and has spoken on a national level at the American Chemistry Society National Meeting in 2011.
