Butterfly Bakery has Mislabeled Sugar-Free Products

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 15, 2013 - A sugar-free bakery that also focuses on other healthy alternatives for baked goods and desserts has been found to be lying about the ingredients and contents of some of their delectable treats. The Butterfly Bakery in Clifton, New Jersey opened in 1998 and want to help those who are on diets but would like to lead normal lives in regards to what they consume. The Food and Drug Administration has found that they were lying about a few of those snacks’ ingredients. Apparently, more sugar and fat than was advertised was in the products.

The investigation was done over a period of years and the sugar-free labels were found to be fraudulent. The items were actually baked goods that did indeed have sugar and fat.  According to the FDA, the No Sugar Added Blueberry Muffin and the Sugar Free Double Chocolate Chip Muffin were the worst of the bunch when tested for saturated fat content. They have 360 and 444 percent more than what is listed on the label, respectively.

The bakery has stated that they will consent to the decrees of the FDA. They have stopped production and will focus on complying with the FDA’s regulations for correct labeling and not misleading consumers.

They took to social media, like Facebook, to decry the idea that this was done with malicious intent.  This was after an injunction signed by a federal judge halted all production from Butterfly Bakery.  The company is obviously very eager to put this issue behind them and move forward with their best foot forward. They do not want to torn apart by the bad publicity this will inevitably cause. Butterfly Bakery also mentioned that they are not completely out of touch with their products since only 45 were singled out by the FDA. They want to maintain their professionalism.

The inspectors and spokespeople for the FDA were concerned that the products had extra sugar and fat with the label of sugar-free on them. They stated that that was a rare situation in the common ground of mislabeling ingredients complaints.
