NC Gospel Recording Artist, Bonita Burney Simmons, Announced Release Of New Album on 3/15/13

NEW BERN, N.C. - March 19, 2013 - PRLog -- Esteemed Psalmist, Bonita Burney Simmons, has released her sophomore album! “Thank You” is a gospel masterpiece packed full of inspirational tracks that are sure to uplift the spirit of its listeners!

Like most of her music projects, Simmons garners inspiration for the songs on her new album from her own life experiences. In fact, the selection of the album’s title was inspired by her gratitude for her adoptive parents and the lost birth mom who gave her away when she was a baby—a personal journey the artist  now openly shares:

“At age 8, I found out that I was adopted when I was just 7 months old! I have recently reached out to my birth mom through an agency and even if she doesn’t want to meet me, I just want to say to her THANK YOU! Although she gave me away for adoption, I was fortunate to be raised in a loving home by the best parents in the world. If it weren’t for my birth mom, I may have missed that opportunity. So for that, I am truly grateful!"

While the identity of her birth mother is still unknown, one thing is for certain—Bonita Burney Simmons was born to sing! Born in Stamford, Connecticut, she has been singing practically most of her life. According to family, she started singing at the young age of 3 even before she could speak full sentences. Simmons later relocated with her family to Kinston, North Carolina where she would hone her skills as a professional artist. A music prodigy, at the age of 12, she formed her own gospel group called “Tried by Fire.” She became a professional singer before graduating from Kinston High School in 1989.

Bonita Burney Simmons—who currently resides in New Bern, NC—is an independent gospel recording artist in high demand, as she is frequently hired to sing at events and venues throughout Eastern, North Carolina. She has opened for many national gospel greats such as Shirley Caesar, John P Kee and The Winans. Also, she has received many accolades from winning first place on numerous occasions at the world famous Apollo Theatre in New York City to her most recent inclusion in WeTV’s contest for Mary Mary Singer’s Showcase. However, some of her greatest accomplishments have been performing at prisons before men and women who are presently incarcerated:

“When you hear people say I loved that song, but when you sang it, it gave me goose bumps and brought tears to my eyes! It allowed me to rejoice and feel God was speaking to ME. That’s something that’s priceless. That’s something that a Grammy, though a great accolade, can’t even do. I would love to have a Grammy, but it will not give me what a woman at Raleigh Correctional Center, who’s serving maybe 10 years or 25 years, can. Who look me in the eye and say thank you for coming and sharing what God really thinks about me through song. Now that’s better than a Grammy!”

Despite her past, Simmons has embraced her identity and is grounded by her divine purpose as a psalmist. She is a motivational speaker and Co-Pastor of the Family Worship Center-Ministry of Restoration in Kinston, NC. She explains, “I’m not just a singer, but a singer with a message!” To that end, she has dedicated her life to helping others who are hurting by ministering through her music. In addition to volunteering time in her outreach ministry (Tried by Fire), she also donates part of the proceeds from album sales and performances.
