PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 15, 2013 - FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The disco theme of the 2013 Allstate Life Insurance(SM) New York 13.1 Marathon® on Saturday, March 23 will take a charitable turn when Paragon Running Specialist Devang Patel, dressed in the iconic white outfit reminiscent of that worn by John Travolta in his breakout role in Saturday Night Fever in 1977, begins the half-marathon at the back of the pack.  For each runner he passes, Devang will earn a $1 donation to “Restore the Shore” by US Road Sports & Entertainment Group, which operates the Allstate Life Insurance(SM) 13.1 Marathon® Series, as well as the New Jersey Marathon, set for Sunday, May 5, at the Jersey Shore.

In what has been dubbed the “Boogie Past You Challenge,” Devang, who resides in North Bergen, N.J., has set a target time of one hour and 35 minutes.  There might even be some “Jive Talkin'” as he whizzes past runners on his way to the finish line.

“The “Boogie Past You Challenge” is a fun way to tie our two area events together in a meaningful way that directly benefits those who continue the recovery process from the devastating storm just a few months ago,” said Greg Laird, Founding Partner and CEO of US Road Sports & Entertainment Group.  “We are excited that Devang has agreed to take our disco theme to the next level and we hope he runs past many competitors in his 'Boogie Shoes.'”

The Allstate Life Insurance(SM) 13.1® New York Marathon begins at 9 a.m., on Saturday, March 23,  in front of Arthur Ashe Stadium, and continues around the park, site of the 1939 and 1964 World Fairs.  The walker and spectator-friendly course will remain open for 3 hours and 30 minutes, a 16 minute/mile pace.

The 5K race will start at 8:30 a.m., on a separate course within Flushing Meadows Park, and the party doesn't end when the runners cross the finish line.  Participants and fans are invited to “Disco Down in Queens” in a post-race party like no other, with free beer (ID required) provided by Michelob ULTRA in the Queens Museum of Art, and a disco party with the funkiest of funk bands.

The Allstate Life Insurance(SM) New York 13.1 Marathon® is the third race in the eight-city Marathon Series, which includes races in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles and Miami Beach.  Connect with the 13.1 Marathon Series via Facebook at www.facebook.com/131marathon or on Twitter at @131Marathon.
