March 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Over a third of the British public prefer listening to their favourite band on their car radio (37%) to a kiss from a loved one (29%) to get them going in the morning, according to new research by Carcraft.

The research by the used car supermarket also discovered that 14% of Brits perceive avoiding traffic as the ideal start to a day, while 11% think an early morning workout puts a spring in their step. However it appears that the classic cooked breakfast has fallen out of favour with only 9% of people choosing it as their favourite way to start the day.

Reinforcing the opinion of the great British public, chartered psychologist Mike Guttridge believes that the research reveals the power of music to shape people’s moods, saying;

“People naturally look for ways to boost their mood, especially when they’re preparing for a busy or stressful day at work. We know from positive psychology research that it’s the small things that make us happy in addition to experiences not material things. As such it’s not surprising to find that the majority of the British public believe that music from their favourite band is one of the best ways to start their day.”

A spokesperson for Carcraft added, “this research offers great news during the current times of austerity, as it proves that it’s the little things which set us up for the day ahead, whether it’s a kiss from a loved one or a sing-a-long with the radio.”

The top five ways to start the day were:

Your favourite band playing on the radio (37%)
A kiss from a significant other (29%)
Not getting stuck in traffic (14%)
Going to the gym before work (11%)
Having a cooked breakfast (9%)
