The day dawned bright and clear, a great relief for the volunteers. Eager fishermen started to hit the water at 5.30am – Charles Parsons Interiors sent two boatloads of burly men and plucky ladies out to compete, including clients from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. While a few fish were caught, unfortunately there were no big wins for the Charles Parsons Interiors team – the Auckland Harbour refused to give up the goods and the pickings were slim! Other teams were luckier. The heaviest snapper of the day was caught by Chris Barlow from Chris Barlow Interiors and weighed in at 6.95kgs. Steve Meek from Morgan Interiors caught the heaviest king fish of the day at 7.55kgs, getting his name on the trophy for a second time, and the best overall snapper catch and winner of the coveted ‘Louise’ trophy went to team Lazy Boy. Safia from Harvey Furnishings also had a win with the heaviest snapper in the ladies’ section at 2.45kgs.
The weather was beautiful and made for a fantastic day out on the boats with plenty of trade talk, and afterwards a great dinner complete with entertainment at the weigh-in at the beautiful Motuihe Island. A whopping $11,800 was raised for Sweet Louise through ticket sales and a beach auction. As always, the best part of the day was the camaraderie of the participants, with of course much discussion about the ‘one that got away’.
