Start-Up Brings Much Needed Consumer Electronic Products to Vision Impaired & Senior Citizen Markets

Big Button Universe online storefront offers affordable, easy-to-use electronic devices

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 13, 2013 - SOUTH DENNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – Today, Big Button Universe Inc. (BBU) announced the grand opening of its online storefront geared toward the low-vision and senior citizen markets. Big Button Universe is dedicated to design, develop and promote easy-to-use consumer electronic devices for the sight impaired, senior citizen and aging baby boomer population.

“Nearly 14 million Americans have low vision. Low vision is the 3rd fastest growing population in need of services in this country and will continue to grow as the baby boomers age.  The low-vision and senior citizen market consists of vibrant people that deserve access to technology that keeps them fully engaged in life. Big Button Universe is excited to have the opportunity to provide quality consumer electronic devices to this market,” stated Leonard Coakley, President and CEO of Big Button Universe.

“Our initial product offering is the BB20, an easy-to-use, big button universal TV remote. Universal remotes have numerous keys and small buttons that can easily be misjudged and clicked on by a person with low-vision. Big Button Universe's large button universal remotes have basic keys that are simple and easy to navigate. Our remotes can work with virtually any television by selecting the model and typing in the appropriate code into the universal remote.”

The BB20, like all Big Button Universe remote controls, offers a range of features. The large faced keypad allows the user to easily understand which buttons they are pressing. Each button is also imprinted with Braille, to help both blind and low-vision customers with channel surfing. More than simply providing the customer with large faced keypads, Big Button Universe remote controls do not sacrifice a customer’s dignity; each device is sensibly arranged, with tastefully designed buttons. The BB20 remote controls feature multi-colored keypads, which highlight the most-used buttons on the device. This provides a senior citizen with easy visual recognition, without sacrificing the remote’s ability to function. Three infrared sensors (two on the end and one on the bottom of the remote) allow senior citizens to hold the remote straight up and down, much like reading a book. This makes it easier to see the device, without the signal aiming off into the ceiling and frustrating the user. Finally, each remote control is protected with Microban® Anti-Microbial technology, which fights microbes regardless of how often the remote is cleaned by the user. Big Button Universe has the largest universal remote code library in the market today with over 3400 codes listed.

The BB20 universal remote can be purchased individually as well as in volume at a discounted group purchase rate. This universal TV remote is ideal for personal use in a home, nursing homes, hotels/motels, restaurants, bars, adult day and children day care centers, to mention a few.
