March 13, 2013 - PRLog -- “Architect designed”, one of the most abused and over used terms in residential property marketing.

With the advent of the IT industry ‘misusing the term architect’, for their own purposes, you must ask yourself, what does Architect mean to you. If like many you expect planning permission and or building control drawings for a few hundred pounds , you do not require an Architect. If like many you want someone to check the quality and progress of your siteworks, you do not require an Architect.

So what is a a ‘proper’ Architect?

Architecture is the creation of delight, that can be a space internal or external, thats it. Now there are other matters that can be included and the brief can include finer details and requirements.

The main point is to note the word creation and delight, without these you do not have architecture, you only have building. For siteworks a Clerk of Works will do an excellent job representing you and looking after your interests. For permission drawings a technician is all you require.

For true Architecture expect to pay and pay well, it is after all a luxury product. Like a Gucci handbag, a Rolls Royce or a Moody Yacht, quality of design and build costs are fundamental in terms of concept. Invention and details of fine materials, bespoke to your particular requirements, a truely Architect designed residence will demand a price.

So the next time you see the term ‘Architect designed’ unless it is the real deal, you know to offer low or walk on.
