Norma’s Cafe & American Red Cross–North Texas Region Hold “Red Cross Day at Norma’s Cafe”

Restaurant fundraises for American Red Cross on Thursday, March 21

March 13, 2013 - PRLog -- Norma’s Cafe, the original Dallas comfort food dining icon, will partner with the American Red Cross – North Texas Region on Thursday, March 21 for “Red Cross Day at Norma’s Cafe.” A portion of the day’s sales from both Norma’s Cafe locations will benefit disaster relief efforts at the American Red Cross – North Texas Region.

To celebrate the day from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Norma’s Cafe staff members and the American Red Cross – North Texas Region volunteers will be dressing for the occasion. Seen at both Norma’s Cafe locations will be American Red Cross employees and volunteers in vintage Red Cross nurses uniforms, and Norma’s Cafe staff donning old-style diner costumes to join in the nostalgia.

“Community outreach is a vital effort with the Norma’s Cafe family and we wouldn’t miss the opportunity to support this great organization that spends countless hours saving the lives of others,” said Ed Murph, owner of Norma’s Cafe. “Since March is National Red Cross Month, we are proud to honor the American Red Cross and appreciate our loyal customers for their support, as well.”

In 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed the first National Red Cross Month in support of Red Cross fundraising efforts to respond to needs brought on by World War II. Since that time, every president, including President Obama, has designated March as National Red Cross Month.

In commemoration of National Red Cross Month, Norma’s Cafe guests will be introduced to the new Tornado App, which is available on Apple and Android platforms by searching “Red Cross Tornado.” Guests who download the new app will receive a free beverage including the new Texas Twister Tea – lemonade, unsweet tea and a drop of grenadine – available for a limited time. The Tornado App alerts users of tornados in the area, provides a checklist of emergency procedures and helps locate shelters for protection.

“We are very grateful for the opportunity to partner with Norma’s Cafe again this year,” said T. D. Smyers, regional chief executive officer for American Red Cross – North Texas Region. “Support from the community and local businesses are a key aspect in growing and building awareness for the American Red Cross across North Texas.”

In addition, Norma’s Cafe will offer a free slice of Mile-High Cream Pie to all American Red Cross employees and volunteers who dine at either of the two Norma’s Cafe locations.
