Goa’s Shigmo Festival to Kick Start From 28th March, 2013

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 13, 2013 - DELHI, India -- A social get-together with a religious touch, Shigmo Festival is the Goan counterpart of the Holi festival celebrated in other parts of India. The Shigmo Festival  of Goa is scheduled to be held  from March 28, 2013 to April 10, 2013 at 14 different destinations in this tiny Indian state. Their names include Ponda, Pernem, Panjim, Mapusa, Vasco, Bicholim, Sanquelim, Valpoi, Curchorem, Sanguem, Margao, Quepem, Cuncolim and Canacona respectively.

Just like Carnival festival, the state tourism board is expecting huge tourist influx during the tenure of Shigmo festival. As per Nikhil Desai, director of Tourism, Goa, "Our strategy paid off. There was 90% occupancy during the four-day Carnival celebration earlier this month.” He said that  the government will spend around 1.5 to 2 crore in support of the Goa festival and the tourism department wants to showcase it as a spring festival and will reach out to the target group through the media and travel agents.
