March 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Millésime Bio 2013, the organic-wine trade show that took place from 28 to 30 January 2013 in Montpellier (Southern France), was a great success. As the largest event of its kind, the trade fair welcomed 4,160 visitors — a figure that was up by 24% year on year.

The 20th Millésime Bio trade show, which is the principal B2B event for the organic-winegrowing industry, was a success. Organised by the Inter-professional Association of Languedoc-Roussillon Organic Wine, the event was held in Montpellier (Southern France) from 28 to 30 January 2013 and attracted 4,160 visitors, against 3,360 the previous year. This is a rise in visitor numbers of 24%, demonstrating the continuing growth of the specialist trade event.

The success of the trade fair further confirms its position as an international forum for the organic-winegrowing sector. Millésime Bio’s uniqueness, both in France and globally, lies in the fact that it only brings together exhibitors who hold the Agriculture Biologique (AB) certification for organic wine.

The Millésime Bio concept is unique in that the floor space, at the trade fair, is divided into identical turnkey booths: therefore, wine alone — its quality and its character — is what differentiates one stand from the next. The trade show also features conferences and self-service wine-tasting areas.

At the trade fair in January 2013, visitors from outside France accounted for 24% of the total. Of all the visitors, 19.80% were importers, followed by 18% who were wine retailers, 8.65% wine wholesalers, and 6.50% members of the hotel and catering trade.

Visitors mainly came from the USA and Canada (13.70%), Scandinavia (10.70%), the Benelux (10.60%), and Asia (10.60%), which included Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, mainland China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Exhibitors from the UK and Ireland represented 7.40% of the total.

There was also a noteworthy diversity of nationalities among the exhibitors: 11 countries were represented, with France, Italy and Spain constituting the top three in terms of the number of players. Vineyards from Austria, Germany (13.30% of exhibitors) and Portugal raised their profile, with an increase in the number of estates represented at Millésime Bio 2013. Estates' representatives and trade professionals from Chile, Egypt, South Africa and the USA also returned to the trade show, proving their loyalty for the third year in a row.

Overall, there was a significant rise in the number of countries and importers represented at Millésime Bio 2013, as compared to 2012. This increase reveals the impact that the International Business Forum had on attendance at the trade fair. The Forum, which was created by Sud de France Développement, the development agency for Languedoc-Roussillon products and tourism, enables the organisation of B2B meetings between wine producers and importers.

Millésime Bio 2013 provided the opportunity for professionals from the entire organic-wine sector, including from all producing countries and regions, to meet in one venue.
