The numbers of rate cases filed each year by electric and gas utilities have consistently increased during the past decade. Some utilities are taking a more structured approach and reengineering rate case development processes. By doing so, utilities can dramatically improve the outcomes of their future rate cases. “Based on an analysis of recent rate case decisions, utilities were awarded only 57 percent of the amounts requested. Clearly there is room for improvement,”
said Mr. Starkweather. “However some companies are getting it right. We discuss this more structured approach in our article.”
