Waterbury Regional Chamber Annual Meeting to Feature NYPD Deputy Commissioner & CIO Jim Onalfo

WATERBURY, Conn. - March 12, 2013 - PRLog -- On Tuesday, April 2, The Waterbury Regional Chamber will honor its long-term members and commemorate another successful year at the organization’s 123rd Annual Meeting & Luncheon. The keynote address will be given by Jim Onalfo, NYPD Deputy Commissioner and CIO who was born in Waterbury, Connecticut. The event will be held from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at La Bella Vista at the Ponte Club at 380 Farmwood Road in Waterbury, Connecticut.

In 2007, NYPD Deputy Commissioner and CIO Jim Onalfo was named one of the “Top 5 CIO’s” by “Computerworld” magazine, and “Top 25 CIO Doers” in 2012 by “Government Technology Magazine”. In November 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Port Police for his contributions to Law Enforcement Technologies. Onalfo reports to NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, and commands 2,000 IT & Communications Specialists. In 2003, he developed a Strategic Systems Plan to move the NYPD into the 21st century. In 2006, NYPD received six awards for the Real Time Crime Center, including the Top Government Global award.  

Under Jim Onalfo’s direction, the NYPD has overhauled its IT environment, investing over $1 billion during the past eight years. He implemented the Real Time Crime Center; the detective case management system where 1M cases are managed in a modern online computer system; the PETS evidence inventory system; and many new systems and infrastructures. Prior to the NYPD, Onalfo was vice president and CIO reporting to the chairman of Stanley Works where he overhauled all their major IT programs. Previous to that position, he was CIO to the $50B Kraft Foods International and he lived and worked in the U.S., Brazil, Australia, and South Korea, and directed Information Technology in over 40 countries with 40 CIO’s around the world. Reporting directly to the Kraft International CEO, Onalfo’s role was to ensure all CIO’s supported their businesses properly.

During the April 2nd luncheon meeting, the Waterbury Regional Chamber will recognize companies which are celebrating milestone anniversaries of 30, 25, and 15 years of membership in 2013.
