nProtect, a leading provider of end-point security solution to protect online banking users from cyber fraud and theft, announced that nProtect’s ISARC (Internet Security Analysis & Response Center) has developed a new security solution that will protect mobile phone users from Smishing attack and plans make it available to the public soon. Exponential growth in smartphones consequentially led to higher rates of phishing using smartphone’s SMS feature as well as malicious application attacks.
There are malicious apps that are being distributed through Google Play or a third-party market place; however, most malicious apps and other types of mobile attacks are being carried out through SMS for Android devices. Distributing malicious apps using SNS is also becoming more popular since the number of smartphone devices has surpassed the number of PCs.
Smishing in Asia, where smartphone usage has become extremely main stream and mobile payment has become very common, has become much more sophisticated than anywhere else, leading nProtect’s ISARC to take prompt actions.
nProtect ISARC is currently collecting and analyzing malicious apps, which have no boundaries, from all around the world. The security solution against Smishing developed by nProtect’s ISARC consists of database that includes around top 350 malware that are causing greatest damage in Asia and thousands more from all around the world.
This new security solution works by using all the collection of malicious apps and SMS containing malicious links, analyzing pattern for each of them, and applying these pattern to prevent attack even from the newest threats. This new innovative method, compared to basic preventive measure used by some other security solution that checks the installation process of an app, greatly reduces the chance of misdiagnosis and error.
Most of anti-virus for mobile devices demands great resource from the device due to large database. What’s special about this new solution is that it was specifically designed to detect selected malicious apps and malicious SMS that target major banks. Focusing on these malicious apps and SMS will ensure people’s phone bills aren’t outrageous or deplete bank accounts. Also, this solution will operate only when necessary, instead of running the whole time that causes battery drainage. nProtect ISARC announced that this solution will have the right balance of security and convenience.
This security solution is expected to alleviate some of major problems of fraudulent mobile transaction, DDoS, and other mobile related crimes by raising security standards in Android devices. This anti-Smishing security solution will be available for free to anyone in Asia.
