Follow on Google News | Visotech supplies Vibration Isolation system to a Major Hospital power plant in AustraliaBy: Visotech A major hospital project in QLD has recently been fitted with a new energy power plant comprising four diesel generator sets and 2 gas powered units. These generators are all supported on GERB spring vibration isolation units. The use of GERB vibration isolation systems greatly reduces the vibrations from the generator sets traveling into the supporting structure. This form of active vibration control is very important to protect the structure and its occupants from vibration and noise, but also to reduce the wear caused by vibrations on the power plant itself. Damping was also provided in the form of Sordino. This material is a polymer sleeve that is heat-shrunk around some of the springs in the isolation unit. The addition of Sordino damping to the spring units is required to alleviate shock vibrations caused during start up or shut down of the generator sets, or from external shocks from the structure. The acoustic engineers on this project specified the use of GERB vibration isolation systems for the power plant. Visotech Pty Ltd from Melbourne supplied the 52 GERB spring units to the mechanical contractor installing the generator sets. Visotech Pty Ltd is the representative agent for GERB vibration isolation systems in Australia and New Zealand. Vibration Isolation and GERB: Based in Berlin Germany, GERB designs and manufactures state of the art vibration isolation systems for all industries. From small pumps and generator sets to building over rail, concert halls and navy frigates, GERB has the knowhow to treat any vibration issues. GERB designs not only spring units, but also viscodampers that can be added to spring units to provide damping. These viscodampers can also be used on their own to dampen pipework or other plant subjected to shock loads. GERB is also renowned for their state of the art tuned mass dampers used in bridges and tall buildings to eliminate vibrations from traffic or wind. The quality of GERB systems ensures long service life of the vibration isolation systems and the plant or building it supports. This in turn means very low lifecycle costs for the end user. Quality also provides peace of mind, minimising the risk of expensive shut downs and replacement of failed units. The opportunity now exists for Australian and New Zealand companies to utilise GERB technology, through Visotech.
